Eden are supporting Wigan Council, providing planning services related to the provision of improvements at their Pennington Flash Visitor Centre.

Located within the Greenbelt the proposals include the provision of improvements to the existing car park, new overspill car parking and a new modular visitor centre to ultimately replace the existing provision.  Pennington Flash is a regionally important nature reserve that provides valuable leisure and recreational facilities as well as being an important environment for wildlife.

The concept for the proposals evolved following Wigan’s successful bid to host the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022. Here bore the opportunity to raise Pennington Flash’s regional presence through its support of Leigh Sports Village in its hosting of an international sporting event.

The proposals seek to widen the visitor offer at Pennington Flash, which is a focus for outdoor sport and recreation. The proposals would introduce a new modular building which would house a café and associated dining area, an information point, and ancillary office floorspace, together with areas of external decking for outdoor seating.

Given the surrounding green environment, it seemed only fitting to propose a modular building which meets the highest sustainability credentials. This lightweight structure will be timber clad, so that its appearance in the natural landscape is softened and its impact lessened.

Eden have prepared and submitted the planning application which is currently under consideration.
