The Barton Swing Aqueduct has long remained the last remaining barrier to the otherwise seamless, publicly accessible connection over the Manchester Ship Canal, along the Bridgewater Way.

Spanning the areas of Salford and Trafford, the boundary of which is delineated by the Manchester Ship Canal, the Site comprises four spatial elements, the Boatyard, Upper Pocket Park, the Swing Aqueduct and Chapel Place and is subject to a plethora of heritage designations.

Eden have submitted planning and listed building consent applications for the Barton Aqueduct Green Link proposal which will establish a new traffic-free, accessible route between Salford and Trafford Park, reinstating the historic raised towpath across the Barton Aqueduct. This will include the erection of two new and accessible ramps, to provide at level access.
