We have been advising Peel L&P since 2021 on the nationally significant Wirral Waters regeneration project: a thirty-year regeneration programme spearheaded by Peel L&P in partnership with Wirral Borough Council.

The Maritime Knowledge Hub at Birkenhead Docks’ East Float is one of the flagship projects we are advising on.

The proposals at East Float will restore a Grade II-listed former hydraulic generating station to create a unique building that combines historic restoration and contemporary architecture. The space will bring new life to the building, accommodating a specialist maritime research and training facility, office and workshop areas, plus a café and event space.

We submitted a planning application in Spring 2022, and secured permission in Spring 2023 after detailed negotiations with the council and key stakeholders.

Now that the council has granted planning permission the project moves one step closer to implementation, securing the long-term future of this heritage asset, strengthening the region’s maritime connections and boosting economic growth.

Work is scheduled to start on site in Autumn 2023 once we have discharged planning conditions.
